Sharpe’s Peril, a BBC Telefilm, was Payal’s first job. She was 17 years old at the time. In this movie, she plays a girl from a small town whose father is a Bengali freedom fighter. After seeing this movie, she was sure she wanted to work in movies. Payal’s family didn’t want her to become an actress.

In September 2020, Payal Ghosh said that the well-known Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap had sexually harassed her. The claimed thing happened when Payal went to the director’s house in 2014. Anurag Kashyap suddenly got naked in front of the girl while showing her around his house and molested her.
Payal also says that Kashyap told her that Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda, and Mahie Gill had these kinds of sexual encounters with him often. Payal politely declined the offer and left the house immediately, saying she was sick. Anurag Kashyap denied the sexual assault claims in tweets and said he planned to take the case to court.
