Career of Mahua Moitra
Mahua Moitra joined the Indian National Congress in 2008. Working hard and making quick progress, she became a well-respected leader and well-known figure in West Bengal. Rahul Gandhi, in particular, was a big fan of hers.

- On January 4, 2017, Mahua Moitra filed a defamation suit against Babul Supriyo after he referred to her as “Maha drunk on Mahua” (also the name of the nation drink in West Bengal) during a live TV debate. On national television, she accused him of defaming her.
- On January 11, 2017, Union Minister Babul Supriyo filed a lawsuit for defamation against Mahua Moitra, claiming that she had falsely accused him of being closely connected to the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
